MasterCard fees are «excessive», says European Court

The giant credit institution has been ordered to withdraw some of the fees it charges traders because it is seen as violating competition laws in the EU.

MasterCard Europe president Javier Pérez said he was «disappointed», but added that the decision would have little or no effect on the functioning of the institution.

The court ruling coincides with efforts by the national bloc to reduce the cost of using credit cards.
